There are roughly two kinds of hockey grips on the market: the Chammy and the cushion grip.
The Chammy
The Chammy grip is also known as a chamois grip. It was invented in the early 1990s and became popular in field hockey around that time. The grip is made of chamois leather and is applied to the handle of the field hockey stick to improve grip and control.
Chamois grips offer a number of benefits for field hockey players. They are made of a soft, absorbent material that helps to wick away sweat from the hands, which can improve grip and control. They are also very durable and provide a consistent level of grip throughout the life of the grip. Additionally, chamois grips are relatively inexpensive, so they are a cost-effective option for players looking to improve their grip.
A chamois grip may be the best choice in the rain, as it is made of a porous material that can absorb water. When moist, it can becomes tackier, which leads to a lot of of grip and control. In very wet conditions, the grip saturates and becomes hard to hold on tight.
Cushion grips
Cushion grips are a type of field hockey grip that are designed to provide added comfort and shock absorption. They are usually made of a soft foam or rubber-like material. As with all grips they are applied to the handle of the field hockey stick. Some cushion grips are designed with an ergonomic shape that conforms to the shape of the hand, which can help to reduce hand fatigue and improve control. They can also help to absorb some of the vibrations that occur when striking the ball, which makes playing in cold weather a lot nicer. Cushion grips are a popular choice among players who want to improve their comfort and control while playing.
Our personal preference is the cushion grip, that´s why we made our Willy hockey grip. It´s easy to apply, lasts a long time and is very comfortable to play with. We especially like it for dragflicking because it gives you a more firm grip on your Willy.
